The Ombudsman Office held a video conference dedicated to the 99th anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev

Ombudsman of Azerbaijan Ms. Sabina Aliyeva held a video conference entitled "National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the protection of human rights in independent Azerbaijan" dedicated to the 99th anniversary of prominent socio-political and state figure Heydar Aliyev.

Opening the event, the Ombudsman stressed that every year, on the eve of his birthday, Heydar Aliyev is commemorated with great respect by the Azerbaijani people as a founder of the sovereign state of Azerbaijan.

During her speech, the Ombudsman spoke about the attention paid by the Great Leader to ensuring human rights and the development of the relevant legal framework. Ms. Aliyeva also underlined a legislative initiative of the National Leader to adopt a Constitutional Law on the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The Ombudsman also spoke about the national human rights reforms implemented by the President Mr. Ilham Aliyev in all areas and the significant developments. Furthermore, it was spoken about the implementation of a number of important projects initiated and led by the First Vice President of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Ms. Mehriban Aliyeva, which further improves the welfare of socially vulnerable groups.

The Ombudsman further noted that the protection of the rights of children, women, PWDs, the elderly, refugees, IDPs and migrants, detainees and prisoners, servicemen, as well as other socially vulnerable groups are always spotlighted.

The participants were informed about the activities of the Ombudsman during the Second Karabakh War and the post-war period, as well as numerous reports, statements, and public messages, addressed to the international community.

Afterward, Prof. Ms. Elmira Suleymanova, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Elders of Azerbaijan, Ms. Hijran Huseynova, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Family, Women, and Children, and Mr. Rauf Zeyni, President of the Azerbaijan National NGO Forum also delivered speeches on the role of National Leader in protecting human rights and developing civil society.

In conclusion, the Human Rights Commissioner stressed that the ombuds institution in Azerbaijan, established on the legislative initiative of the National Leader will continue to faithfully serve our people.
