The Ombudsperson participated in the event dedicated to the International Day of Migrants

On the occasion of December 18 - the International Day of Migrants,  an event entitled topic "Migrants in Azerbaijan: equality, diversity and inclusion". was held. The event was attended by representatives of state bodies, international organizations, civil society institutions, private sector, as well as heads of diplomatic missions accredited in our country and migrants.

At the event, Sabina Aliyeva, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsperson) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Vusal Huseynov, the head of the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Vladanka Andreeva, the UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, Zoltan Szalai, the Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan, Radim Zak, Regional Coordinator for Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the International Center for Migration Policy Development spoke about the importance of this day.

In her speech, the Ombudsperson spoke about the contributions of persons subject to voluntary and forced displacementto the development of the countries of origin and destination, including the main difficulties faced by refugees and other vulnerable persons during the massive influx of migrants and ways to prevent them.

S. Aliyeva gave information about the systematic work done by the Ombudsman institution in the field of ensuring the rights and freedoms of migrants, and mentioned a number of recommendations in order to improve the activity in the field of migration in accordance with global challenges. Sheadded that the complexity and increasing scale of migration processes require constructive cooperation between countries and regions, including the creation of an organized protection mechanism.

Later on, a short film called "48: Azerbaijan with endless love" was displayed, where the life story of a migrant who lived in our country for many years and his thoughts about our country were screened, as well as music performances of foreigners were heard.

In addition, within the framework of the event, an exhibition of cultural heritage, household and culinary examples of foreign countries was held, a photo exhibition submitted to the "Migration in Azerbaijan in your lens" contest was shown, and an awarding ceremony was held for the winners.
