Within the framework of activities, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan keeps the issue of ensuring the rights of the elderly in her focus.
To this end, upon the instructions of the Ombudsman, regular visits are conducted to the Social Service Facility for the Elderly of the Social Services Agency under the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population (MLSPP).
During the next visit conducted to the Social Service Facility for the Elderly by the National Preventive Group members within the framework of the Ombudsman’s National Preventive Mechanism activities, the residential blocks, administrative rooms, as well as bedrooms and medical rooms of the facility were inspected, and the living conditions, nutrition, as well as the current state and documentation regarding the organization of medical care were investigated.
At the same time, during the visit the Ombudsman's representatives met with the residents of the facility and recorded their appeals, and detailed information was provided about the mandate of the Commissioner.
During the visit, issues requiring necessary additional measures were identified in relation to the organization of nutrition, storage of pharmaceuticals and compliance with their expiration dates, as well as the technical condition of the facility's building and infrastructure.
Also, the status of the implementation of recommendations given during previous visits was checked on-site, and relevant recommendations were provided towards further improving the activities.
Based on the results of the visit, an appeal will be made to the MLSPP regarding the solution of a number of identified issues.
