Ombudsman held a meeting with the AFFA delegation

The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, received the delegation led by the Secretary General of the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA), Jahangir Farajullayev.

During the meeting, Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva provided detailed information about the activities carried out in the field of protection of human rights and freedoms.

The Commissioner noted that the period from 18 May to 18 June is annually declared “Human Rights Month” in the country and that a series of legal awareness-raising events are organized within the framework of the Month.

The Ombudsman stated that monitoring groups on ensuring the right to equality and prevention of discrimination, as well as on the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities and children’s rights, have been established, and that continuous measures are being implemented in these areas.

Sabina Aliyeva emphasized the importance of ensuring the healthy and proper physical development of children and youth, as well as involving them in sports, particularly football.

During the meeting, the importance of preventing discrimination in the sports environment was highlighted, and it was noted that respect for the rights and freedoms of people regardless of their religion, language, race, national and ethnic origin, as well as ensuring equal treatment for everyone, are among the fundamental principles.

The Commissioner also stated that the Ombudsman Institution is ready to provide its support from the human rights perspective in the areas of improving legislation in the field of sports, conducting awareness-raising activities, as well as resolving issues arising in practical activities.

For his part, AFFA Secretary General Jahangir Farajullayev provided information about the activities of the federation, projects implemented for the development of football in the country, and achievements attained.

The meeting also addressed the work carried out within the framework of cooperation between the Ombudsman Institution and AFFA, and an exchange of views was held on joint projects and initiatives planned for future implementation.
