The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ms. Sabina Aliyeva, had convened with Mr. Siniša Bjeković, the Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms of Montenegro (Ombudsman).
During the meeting, the Ombudsman, Ms. Sabina Aliyeva, provided detailed information to her colleague about her activities in the field of protecting human rights and freedoms.
The Azerbaijani Ombudsman spoke about her mandate extended in the fields of anti-discrimination, ensuring equality, and protection of the rights of children, and migrants, as well as persons with disabilities and other fields, as well as being empowered to act as an independent monitoring mechanism in the said directions.
Ms. Sabina Aliyeva also informed the delegation members about the work of the independent monitoring groups created to ensure equality and prevent discrimination as well as the best practices in these fields.
In addition, the Azerbaijani Ombudsman once again expressed her gratitude to her Montenegrin colleague for the prompt support provided in protecting the rights of citizens of Azerbaijan in relation to the events that occurred in Montenegro last year.
In his turn, the Ombudsman of Montenegro, Mr. Siniša Bjeković, thanked the Azerbaijani Ombudsman Ms. Sabina Aliyeva for the warm reception and hospitality, emphasizing that there is significant potential to further develop cooperation between the two ombudsman institutions.
The parties also engaged in a broad exchange of ideas regarding other issues of mutual concern and discussed avenues for further strengthening future collaboration.
