A boarding institution was monitored under the Ombudsman’s National Preventive Mechanism mandate

By the instructions of Sabina Aliyeva, Ombudsman of Azerbaijan, members of the National Preventive Group (NPG) conducted an ad-hoc visit to Boarding Special General Education School No. 3 in Baku, under the Ministry of Science and Education, following a fire incident that occurred at the institution.

During the visit, the provision of children’s rights to health, including their right to live in safe and healthy conditions, was assessed on site.

The NPG Members held individual interviews with the children, inquired into their well-being, and identified any issues of concern.

Meetings were also held with the institution’s management and relevant staff, during which information was obtained on the causes of the incident and the measures taken to address its shortcomings.

The Ombudsman continues to supervise the matter.
