The Ombudsman organized an event in Sheki focused on promoting and ensuring the right of access to information

This year commemorates a decade since UNESCO proclaimed 28 September as the International Day for Universal Access to Information.

As part of the "Year of Constitution and Sovereignty" and ahead of this remarkable international day, the Azerbaijani Ombudsman initiated the next awareness-raising event titled “Ensuring the Right of Access to Information”, which took place on September 23 at the Sheki ASAN Service Center. 

This event had brought citizens, employees of the Sheki ASAN Service Center, and various information-holding stakeholders in Sheki.

In the opening remarks, Bahruz Nasibov, director of the Sheki ASAN Service Center, and Lamiya Zeynalova, head of the Department for Ensuring the Right to Information at the Ombudsman Office. They provided information about the Ombudsman’s work.

Later, employees of the Department informed the participants about how the Ombudsman oversees compliance of the activities with the information holders with the Law on Access to Information, protect and advocate this right, handles related complaints, drafts administrative protocols to fine, and monitors and analyzes.

Furthermore, a video on “Ensuring the Right to Access Information” was shown. Printed relevant educational materials were also exhibited and presented to the Sheki ASAN Service Center to place in public areas, ensuring easy access for all visitors.

At the end of the event, an open exchange of views on the topic was held and the questions were answered.
